Heart & Womb Awakening: A Journey of Yoga and Healing in Lamu
This October, Transformative Journeys invites you to step away from the noise and into the gentle rhythm of island life with our “Heart & Womb Awakening” immersion in Lamu, Kenya – an experience designed to nourish your body, awaken your spirit, and reconnect you with your truest self.
Ancient Traditions Meet Modern Renewal

Lamu Island stands as a living testament to centuries of Swahili culture and wisdom. This UNESCO World Heritage site off Kenya’s northern coast offers something increasingly rare in our world – a place where traditional ways of life remain vibrant and intact. Here, donkeys replace cars on narrow streets, houses built from coral stone tell stories of generations past, and the daily calls to prayer mark time in a way that reconnects us to natural rhythms.
Our journey harnesses the unique energy of this ancient place, combining the physical practice of yoga with the deeper work of traditional medicine ceremonies. This thoughtfully crafted journey begins with the body, opens the heart, and ultimately creates space for profound inner transformation.
A Home in Paradise

Your home for this journey will be the stunning Dhow House in Shela village, a haven of tranquility with private rooms and ensuite baths for each of our five participants. This exclusive setting allows for the perfect balance of community connection and personal space – essential elements for any transformative experience.
From the house’s peaceful garden to its refreshing pool, every aspect of your accommodation has been chosen to support both comfort and contemplation. As the Indian Ocean laps at the shore just steps away, you’ll find yourself naturally settling into the unhurried pace that makes Lamu so special.
Your Day-by-Day Journey

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome
Arrival at your leisure. On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) you will be met by an airport representative who will walk you through customs and assist you with retrieving your bags. Then it’s a 5 minute drive to the Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi airport hotel which will be our base for the night. Single room at Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi (including breakfast).
Day 2: The Magic Begins

After breakfast, we’ll board our flight to Lamu Island, where the transformation truly begins. Your first experience of island life will be lunch at the iconic Peponi Hotel, followed by settling into our home for the next eight nights, the beautiful Dhow House in Shela village.
The afternoon offers time for exploration or relaxation by the pool, allowing you to ease into the gentle rhythm of island time. As evening falls, we’ll gather for our welcome ceremony and a dinner of authentic Swahili cuisine prepared by our private chef, setting our intentions for the transformative days ahead.
Days 3-6: Yoga Festival Immersion

These days are reserved for the Lamu Yoga Festival activities, choose to take advantage of all the classes that you wish. If not, the house, village and surrounding islands are available for you to discover.
The festival has a broad range of classes available for participants from hatha to vinyasa and aerial yoga. There will also be a daily yoga class in our garden for those who don’t want to move too far.
Each evening, we’ll gather for a communal dinner, sharing experiences and insights from the day.
Day 7: Sacred Medicine Ceremony

After we close out the yoga festival, with open minds and bodies, we will journey inward for our sacred offerings.
In the morning after the closing, we will sit in sacred ceremony with Sara as she guides the group through a heart and womb clearing session with kambo.
This treatment is specific to reconnect and clear the pathway between the hear/love and the womb/sexuality in women. The process of purification, letting go and creating space for something that is more aligned with you.
Kambo cleanse is a powerful reset of the mind & body and through the purge of mental, physical and emotional toxins. A rite of passage that will awaken ones inner spiritual strength, stamina and human experience though letting go on a physical way.
Note on Kambo: This ceremony is optional but highly recommended as a central part of our immersion experience. Kambo is a traditional Amazonian medicine that should be approached with respect. It is generally safe when administered properly, but is not recommended for people with serious heart conditions, those on psychiatric medications, or women who are pregnant. We will provide a detailed health questionnaire before the immersion to ensure this experience is appropriate for you.
The afternoon will be dedicated to integration and rest, with a light, nourishing dinner in the evening.
Day 8: Mothership
We will being the day with Sara leading us in breathwork as our anchor for the Mothership.
The Mothership (large spacecraft where smaller ships refuel and get launched into the cosmos) calling you to step into otherworldly dimension, guided and held gracefully to transport you on a deep and transformative inward journey.
An invitation to explore the depths beneath the conscious mind, held in the nurturing embrace of the feminine.
This powerful experienced merges Conscious Connected Breathwork to awaken your aliveness. Combining the holy trinity of medicine, breath and sound.
After this ceremony we will spend the afternoon bringing it all together through a transformative live sound journey with gongs, singing bowls and other instruments.
Day 9: Integration and Exploration
Our final day on the island can be spent as you see fit. We offer several options for those who want to be active:
- Guided historical tour of Lamu Town with its museums and markets
